Meet the Featured Artist for the William R. Larson Sr. Art Collection, Clayton Rippey...

Clayton Rippey was born in La Grande, Oregon on April 24th, 1923. Clayton Rippey is a proud father to John, Barbara and son in-law, Barry. Clayton Rippey's work is in over 1,500 private and many corporate collections. These valuable collections include watercolor and acrylic paintings, sculptures, mosaic intarsias, prints and murals.

The Mosaic Intarsias included in this collection are far more unique than any other similar art form. When Clayton Rippey began creating this collection of Mosaic Intarsias in the 1960's, prior to the discovery of "Green Design," used his creative genius in being environmentally responsible by reusing and recycing various goods and materials. This resulted in a sustainable art form minimizing the environmental impact of avoiding waste. Clayton Rippey has said that no one else was creating this type of art at that time and proudly considers this collection to be one of his most outstanding achievements.

After traveling much of the world, Clayton Rippey has made his home within the natural beauty of the State of Washington. In Clayton Rippey's own words found in one of our father's many personal letters from Rippey, "It's a very dreary and rainy day, but as I sit here writing this, I watch harlequin ducks, cormorants, my pets; a wild seagull named Gracie waiting for a hand out, and there is a giant sea lion just below, must be 12 feet long! So even with the bad weather, our Shangri La is great. Each year we count our blessings and thank the Guardian Angel for having installed us in PARADISE." This is a man who truly appreciates the beauty in everything, and better yet, shares it with the world through his treasured art.

In 1941 and 1942 Clayton Rippey attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois majoring in Music. Rippey then joined the Armed Forces and proudly served his Country from 1943 to 1945. During that time he was awarded the following; Combat Infantry badge, ETO ribbon with three clusters, Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
Majoring in fine art, Clayton Rippey received his B.A. in 1947 and his M.A., 1949 at Stanford University, California. Post-Graduate work includes: Instituto Allende, Mexico, 1956; San Jose State University, Ca., 1953; College of the Pacific, Ca., 1959; and other workshops. Rippey has traveled through the Continental United States, Western Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Pacific, South East Asia, Africa, China, Hawaii, Alaska, and Costa Rica.
